After hearing the news that Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, I was overcome with frustration and sadness. Our government’s attempts to support the Puerto Rican people did even more to fuel how I felt about the injustice of the situation. Because art has always been my instrument of personal expression, I tried to use my artistic skills as a way of processing the aftermath of the hurricane. I was able to direct and channel my negative feelings into something creative and meaningful in order to provide support for the people living on the island - people that I feel close to due to my Caribbean heritage. I created this t-shirt design with the phrase Puerto Rico Se Levanta, which means "Puerto Rico will rise".  I need everyone’s help in order to make this happen. I have finally been able to print out the first t-shirts of the series, which will be sold in order to raise money for friends and family members in Puerto Rico through the Hurricane Maria Community Recovery Fund. I encourage you to order a shirt or donate here.

I am extremely grateful and excited to have the creative community of FORM Magazine support me in this cause. Besides providing a space for curating and producing my art, I appreciate the magazine's willingness to feature work that deeply matters to me and that will make a difference.
