Have U Heard

Have U Heard

In the heat of a Carolina summer evening, I felt the energy of synced up heartbeats. The ground beneath my feet vibrated from the movement of festival goers, all gathered in our beloved Durham Central Park to witness blossoming young talent and to hear their music at the Have U Heard Fest. The festival had been vibrant since early afternoon, but as the light grew dimmer and the air began to cool, the energy rose more than ever.

The festival had been on people’s minds for over a month now, through word of mouth and social media. Some artists came with personal connections to the audience members, and the park felt like a community. While backstage provided a space for artists and set workers to relax, as soon as each musician stepped up onto the stage, they entered an intimate family of ecstatic supporters.

A smaller festival, the event felt incredibly connected and special in a uniquely local way—despite the fact that many festival goers were from different parts of the country. All of these musicians called North Carolina their home, and along with this deep sentiment of personal history and nostalgia, the Have U Heard Festival united a great love and support for the local talent all in one park on this humid evening.
